End of School Year

Made by Kids
A couple of years ago, my son’s preschool teacher assembled work he’d done into a book for him to bring home. For the cover, she’d had him write his name on construction paper, using a different color for each letter, and then she cut out the letters and glued them onto a piece of cardstock. It was adorable. Pad Pants & Flashlights
We are off on our great family adventure – biking and camping in Colorado with Western Spirit Cycling. I’m beyond excited. I did Western Spirit’s White Rim Tour in Canyonlands National Park exactly 9 years ago. It is still the best trip I’ve ever taken. This time, we’ll be doing one of Western Spirit’s Family Trips. If you are [...]

Sparkly Cut & Paste Project
Here’s another great one-class art lesson for kindergarteners from Deep Space Sparkle, a wonderful and oh-so-helpful source for Art Parents (and teachers, homeschoolers, my Aunt Ann in Oregon…). My son and his classmates used up my craft room supply of paper scraps – I just happened to have a lot of patterns. Instead of paint, they [...]

Party Napkin Eggs
Check out this egg decorating technique, submitted to Art Projects for Kids from a teacher in Macedonia. We used plastic eggs and the egg whites and paper napkins adhered beautifully. My son’s 4-year-old buddy called it “painting with egg goo.” I’ll never discard an unused party napkin again.

I also taped paper pirate hats to the people in artwork and photos around the house. Once the children entered, they saw our dining room set up with treasure boxes for [...]

Pretend Sleepover – 5th Birthday
Both of my kids loved “Pajama Day” in preschool, and other moms were beginning to consult each other on when to let their daughters sleep over at another house(for us it will be years!) So I thought my idea to have a pretend sleepover for my daughter’s 5th birthday party was brilliant – until a friend said [...]
