Chemo Side Effects, Part 2

All 4 of us have sore throats and coughs.

But, THAT’S IT!  Life is good!

No more chemo and (almost) no more side effects.  Here’s what I experienced on Taxol and Neulasta:

Taxol (Paclitaxel)
Via infusion, once every 2-wks, for 4 cycles (following Cisplatin).  Continued to take Sorafenib.  Click here for side effects from those drugs.

  • Hot, red face the day after infusion
  • Mild nausea.  I took Compazine and Zofran for 2 days after infusion.
  • Hair loss
  • That which Immodium is good for
  • Mild neuropathy, only in my toes
  • Nosebleeds
  • Joint pain, which could be from the Neulasta shot

A shot to increase white blood cell count, given back at Emory 24 hours after each infusion. Duration of symptoms varied from 3-6 days.  Claritin and Advil helped most.

  • Flu-like symptoms, low-grade fever
  • Bone and joint pain, especially in my legs

And that, my friends, is the last I’ll write about chemo side effects!

MRI, mammogram and ultrasound tomorrow, 8/29.  PET scan Friday, 8/31.

  1. I will be anxiously awaiting news of your tests from Thursday and Friday.

Did you ever think you’d be grateful to report that all four of you have allergies?! (Or a cold or whatever.) Nothing like cancer treatment to give you some perspective! Here’s to going back to sweating the small stuff again soon! But, of course, even when you’re done with all of this, you’ll never sweat the little things again. So glad that you have your beautiful family to surround you, now and always!

  2. I just re-read what I wrote yesterday. I pray that all tests will have positive results for YOU. So would the tests have to be negative. Now I really am confused. lol Darn old age. :)

  3. I remain amazed at how you are dealing with these procedures. Whew! What a strong lady you are, but that doesn’t surprise me at all. I’m so glad the worst seems to be behind you. I’ll be praying that all tests give you positive results. Hugs and love. Aunt Edna

  4. Gail Joyner says:

All I want for my birthday on August 31rst, is for you to have a CLEAN PET scan. Yahoo…There will be many rainbows this week! You all take care of those sniffles!
